The Sterile Processing Technician is assigned duties performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the clinic, utilizing infection control safety practices during all phases of the process. Primary Responsibilities:20% CLINICAL ACTIVITIESTo utilize specialized knowledge of instrumentation processing/sterilizations evidenced by:Demonstrates adherence to guidelines for proper processing and sterilization of surgical instruments/equipment according to manufacturer's instructions for use * Knowledgeable of principles of aseptic techniques and universal precautionCorrectly handles instruments to prevent injury to self or others, to maintain proper working orderInspects all instruments and equipment for any damage or malfunction or bio burdenDemonstrates familiarity with wide scope of surgical instruments, equipment, and suppliesEnsures equipment, instrumentation and supplies are available by maintaining proper inventory and prompt repairs initiatedMaintains cleanliness and proper order in the work areaWears appropriate PPE when decontaminating/processing instrumentation and equipmentMaintains all required records on sterilizationProficient in use of all equipmentProperly cleans and maintains all CSPD equipment according to the manufacturer's guidelines to include: autoclaves & ultrasonic, etc.Provides assistance in emergency situations as directedDecontaminates, inspects, and sterilizes all equipment, instrumentation according to manufacturer's instructions for useTo function efficiently as a member of the surgical team as evidenced by:Works closely with Materials Management to ensure broken or missing instrumentation/equipment is sent out for either replacement or repairAssists with stocking, preparation, and waste management of suppliesPerforms other related duties as assigned25% CUSTOMER SERVICEMaintains active professional relationships with doctors and patients by assessing needs and levels of satisfaction with Center services. Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. Identifies and reports problems, inefficiencies, deficiencies as shown by:Collaborates with physicians, nurses to update service needs and start new servicesPositive physician satisfactionReports all inefficiencies, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences to Nursing SupervisorServes as a role model to all staffMaintains confidentiality on matters to which they are privilegedDemonstrates Kelsey-Seybold Mission and Values10% EMPLOYMENT MANAGEMENTDemonstrates ability to orient and coach staff as evidenced by: Resourceful in problem solvingExplains policies, procedures, and methods to staff who do not understandAssists in the orientation and training of new employees, or employees in a new position as preceptor and role model15% RESOURCE AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENTEnsures the proper use of resources as evidenced by:Prompt attention and follow through to equipment maintenance and repairsCareful use of supplies to avoid waste and damageReports to the appropriate person when supplies are lowKeeps accurate records, complete in a timely, legible mannerUses appropriate human, financial, and material resources while considering the overall budgetary constraintsInventory maintained at approved levelsEnsures prompt attention to instruments and equipment upon completion of each surgical procedure10% REGULATORY COMPLIANCEComplies with local, State and Federal rules and regulations and accreditation guidelines as evidenced by:Maintains and accurately completes sterilization records in compliance with accreditation Standards100% of regulatory concerns or unusual occurrences are reported to nursing supervisor within 24 hours of occurrenceWhen patient injury or disaster occurs, administration is notified immediately100% compliance policy and procedure regarding sterilization practices10% SAFETYInfection control practices demonstratedMaintains area in safe condition as indicated by cleared hallways, secured electrical wiring, and removal/reporting of broken equipment promptly. Adheres to all facility safety regulations and guidelines regarding client safety as evidenced by:Knowledge of MSDS, universal precautionsIdentifies, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions immediatelyAttends staff meetings as evidenced by attendance record, participates in facility emergency preparedness planMaintains sterile processing area in a safe and orderly manner10% QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIESThese activities are everyone's responsibility. Makes sure that there is appropriate follow throughParticipates in Quality improvement Team Projects as appropriateCompletes assigned monitors in a timely and accurate mannerKeeps up to date with Clinic's Quality improvement activities You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited Central sterile processing tech programCPRClear understanding of sterilization processProven basic computer skills Preferred Qualifications:Certified central sterile processing technician (CSPD)1+ years of experience as a sterile processing technician1+ years of experience sterilizing instrumentsExperience as a surgical technician Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
